The TAPAS project evaluates existing farm-scale modelling tools for the evaluation of the ecotoxicological impacts generated by potentially toxic substances used in EU aquaculture and will contribute to improving them to allow testing of the regulatory. The project will generate modeling scenarios for the environmental risk evaluation of potentially toxic substances representing the main aquaculture practices in EU. TAPAS will also compile, develop, and test environmental thresholds for potentially toxic substances used in EU aquaculture with laboratory and semi-field ecotoxicological experiments to minimize chemical discharge and environmental impacts.

Planned tasks to achieve

  1. Evaluating and improving existing farm-scale modelling tools for the evaluation of the ecotoxicological risks generated by antifouling agents, veterinary medicines and potentially toxic compounds
  2. Compiling, developing, and testing environmental thresholds for potentially toxic substances used in EU aquaculture
  3. Developing rapid assessment tools for the prospective ERA of potentially toxic substances that can be used by farm applicants and regulators

Completed tasks until 18th Month

  1. Three deliverables have been completed and four milestones have been achieved
  2. Two workshops have been organized to evaluate, discuss and design the plans for the modelling approaches
  3. Case studies have been completed
  4. Several initial fieldworks and experiments took place
