The most important bio-physical water quality parameters are being monitored every 15 minutes with WISPstations by the TAPAS team in Netherland, Italy, Estonia, Scotland, Greece and Lithuania. TAPAS partner, Water Insight, has built this new optical measurement instrument to collect measurements for chlorophyll, cyanobacteria pigment, suspended matter, presence of scums and transparency of the seas. The WISPstations are completely autonomous; they produce their own energy with solar panels and use 3G to send the results to an online database where the data can be directly coupled to the processing software. In the future, the WISPstations could collect additional measurements, as to satellite imagery, which can deliver an enormous spatial insight in water quality of a water body.
