MDEA Agua has published an optimized analytical method for the analysis of antibiotics in marine samples (i.e., water, sediments, biofilms, crustaceans and mollusks). Within TAPAS, the new method is being used to assess the ecotoxicological risks posed by antibiotics used in Mediterranean aquaculture. Some of the biological endpoints, that are currently being investigated are: structure of marine biofilm communities, structure of the microbiome and resistome of sediment samples, and bioaccumulation and effects on benthic invertebrates.
