Szent István University (SZIU) is one of the largest higher educational institute in Hungary. It has a prosperous history since it formed in the 18th century and has undergone significant transformations. SZIU had merged with several institutions including the University of Veterinary Science in Budapest, the Ybl Miklós Technical College, the Teacher's Training College of Jászberény and the University of Agriculture in Gödöllő in the year of 2000. SZIU also took over the Tessedik Sámuel College in 2009 and operates its current line up since. The Szent István University’s research scope covers the fields of ecotoxicology (multiple test systems), fish farming and fisheries ecology of natural waters. It has specific expertise in environmental impact assessment of chemicals and invasive species, and contributes to freshwater aspects of TAPAS in ponds and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
