Aquaculture Stewardship Council had been founded in 2010 by WWF and IDH (Dutch Sustainable Trade Initiative). ASC is an independent not for profit organization and the standards are ISEAL accredited. ASC aims to be the world's leading certification and labeling program for responsibly farmed seafood. The Aquaculture Stewardship Council's primary role is to manage the global standards for responsible aquaculture, which were developed by the WWF Aquaculture Dialogues. ASC works with aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies, scientists, conservation groups and consumers to recognize and reward responsible aquaculture through the ASC aquaculture certification program and seafood label. The ASC program promotes industry best practice to minimize the environmental and social footprint of commercial aquaculture. Within TAPAS the ASC from the metric data collected during certification is helping to specify and test the impact models being devised under WP3,4 and 5 and working with WP8 to convert tested models into tools useful for smart aquaculture.
