Public Deliverables
The TAPAS consortium uniquely combines partners with substantial and complementary experience in aquaculture operation and research, in carrying capacity, spatial analysis, modelling and remote sensing, in situ monitoring, environmental risk assessment, societal and policy analysis and decision support and user training. These combined competencies will ensure the successful achievement of all project objectives and impacts in a timely manner.
Deliverable 9.11 Press release for participating countries
Deliverable 9.11. is a press release which has been prepared by the coordinating institution (UOS) for each participating country. Each press release included information about the TAPAS project, about the coordinating organization and about each organization in the specific participating country. In-country partners were able to collaborate and adapt the text appropriately to suit their own circumstances and then translate into their own language if required. The press releases were circulated to participating country media on the first day of the TAPAS project, 1 March 2016.
Deliverable 9.12 Communication Strategy
Deliverable 9.12. is the TAPAS project communications strategy, which sets the overall communication plan, including goals, target groups, key messages, and methods. This ensures to achieve the internal and external communication of the project's results and outcomes to the partners and to the wider stakeholder community. It will focus on a defined audience including the aquaculture industry, regulatory authorities, advisory bodies, the international scientific community and the European Commission. The strategy covers a wide range of activities; an interactive website, social network profiles (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and press releases which will be used to communicate major project outcomes. There will also be participating in public and conference events using promotional materials, as brochures, leaflets, posters, videos, newsletters.
Deliverable 5.1. Critical Evaluation and Suggestion of Models
Deliverable 5.1. is a report which focuses on a critical evaluation and suggestion of existing and new models to be developed in the TAPAS project. The report was completed within the first four months of the project and covers near-field models (defined as farm level to water-body scale) currently used for either regulatory or scientific purposes to assess nutrients/wastes. The aim was to compare and evaluate key models that could be used by stakeholders for planning and management of sustainable aquaculture. The evaluation included the most relevant models for European aquaculture systems (including marine fish cages, shellfish, freshwater cages, and ponds) and highlighted their strengths, weaknesses and potential areas for improvement.
Deliverable 3.1. Report and scientific article of ERA models
Deliverable 3.1 is a report which presents an overview of the aquaculture production sector in the EU, the veterinary medicines and other potentially toxic substances used in EU aquaculture, and the environmental standards and regulatory procedures available for their Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA). It describes the state-of-the-art on the development of models capable of assessing the fate, dispersal, exposure, ecological effects and associated ecotoxicological risks of veterinary medicines applied in aquaculture production. This study provides a recommendation to improve the chemical exposure assessments and the ecological realism of the modeling outcomes, paying a special attention to the protection goals set for the regulatory ERA of veterinary medicines.
Deliverable 7.1. Inventory of in situ data sets
Deliverable 7.1. ensures the best use of available long-term in-situ datasets that have been collected for regulatory monitoring or other purposes at aquaculture production sites across Europe. The information compiled in this deliverable will support partners to identify the gaps in data sets required to improve existing models and validate new ones. TAPAS partners were asked to select available datasets to know to them which is required for the project and to define the method how these data are applicable for the TAPAS project objectives. The survey identified 39 available aquaculture or related data resources owned by the partners and 41 national and international collections of potentially available data.
Deliverable 3.2. Workshop to evaluate the ERA models
Deliverable 3.1 provides an overview of a workshop, held in Wageningen, Netherlands. The Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of potentially toxic substances of the TAPAS project meeting had been held between 24th and 26th October 2016. The first aim of the workshop was to evaluate existing models for the environmental risk assessment of chemicals used in aquaculture in the EU and to design a strategy for their development and improvement. The second aim of the workshop was to get an overview of the systems and facilities that the various TAPAS partners can provide for the (experimental) case studies.
Deliverable 4.1. Ecosystem services workshop
Deliverable 4.1. describes the first stakeholder workshop, which was on an informative/ consultative level. The workshop consisted of two sessions. The first, a series of presentations introducing the TAPAS project to the participants and two further presentations about aquaculture licensing and “bottlenecks” followed by an introduction to ecosystems services and their interaction with aquaculture with respect to how the ecosystem services methodology fits into the TAPAS approach to sustainable development. In the session two, the partners participated in group discussion and the subsequent findings were fed back to the participants by rapporteurs from each group. The balance between public perceptions, benefits of aquaculture and ecosystem impacts were the keys in structuring opinions.
Deliverable 4.2. Ecosystem services workshop final report
Deliverable 4.2. Is a report which presents an approach to the assessment of ES related to aquaculture and represents a background document and a departure point for building a general framework for the assessment of ecosystems services in the TAPAS project. We adopt an ecosystem services approach, which takes into account benefits (from provisioning, regulating, supporting and cultural services) humans derive from freshwater and marine ecosystems, and how aquaculture influence these. The service provides a foundation for the work that will be conducted in "Ecosystem Services and Societal models". The development of the framework will continue throughout the lifetime of the TAPAS project.
Deliverable 3.3. Model development and design workshop
Deliverable 3.3. describes the outcome of the workshop on model development and design of the case studies which took place in Malta on 3 April 2017. The report assesses the impact of potentially toxic substances to aquatic ecosystems surrounding aquaculture farm. It provides an ecologically relevant link between aquaculture management practices and their associated biological impacts. The goal of the case studies to calibrate and evaluate the different components of the modeling tools, the efficiency of the implementation of the modeling scenarios and to test the environmental threshold concentrations and evaluation endpoints.
